[synopsis] => Le royaume du Champa s'organise vers le Ve siècle après J. -C. sur une large partie du territoire du Vietnam actuel. Il reste encore quelques magnifiques édifices dans la région de Nha Trang. La sculpture Cham utilise divers matériaux, principalement la pierre (grès), mais également l'or, l'argent et le bronze. À l'origine, ces œuvres illustraient la mythologie indienne. Ce puissant royaume fut progressivement détruit au cours du XVe siècle par l'irrésistible descente vers le sud (« Nam Tiên ») des vietnamiens, depuis leur foyer de la région du Fleuve Rouge. L'auteur explore, décrit et commente les différents styles des sculptures de l'art Cham en s'appuyant sur une iconographie riche et inédite.
